Additional information

Although there are no data available concerning the acute toxicity to aquatic algae, the substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae. Studies are available in order to determine the acute toxicity to Desmodesmus subspicatus of three members of the category of derivatives of 4,4’-bis(1,3,5-triazinyl-2-yl)amino)stilbene-2,2’-disulfonic acid, each with one anilino and one alkyl amino moiety.All those studies demonstrate that the substances belonging to the category are with a high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae.

EC 432-690-8: In a toxicity study (72 h) of the test substance on Desmodesmus subspicatus, no toxic effects occurred at the test concentration of nominally 100 mg/L. The EC50 value was determined to be > 100 mg/L (Clariant 1999). Light induced degradation of the substance was observed during analytical monitoring. The test substance is considered not to be harmful to aquatic algae.

EC 476-900-6: In a toxicity study (72 h) of the test substance on Desmodesmus subspicatus, no toxic effects occurred at the test concentration of nominally 22 mg/L. The EC50 value was determined to be > 100 mg/L (Clariant 2006). Therefore, the test substance is considered not to be harmful to aquatic algae.

EC 416-640-2: In a toxicity study (72 h) of the test substance on Desmodesmus subspicatus, no toxic effects occurred at the test concentration of 100 mg/L. The EC50 value was determined to be > 100 mg/L (Sandoz 1995). Therefore, the test substance is considered not to be harmful to aquatic algae.
