Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Purpose: Determination of ErC/EbC 50 (0-72 h): Concentration at which the growth of algae is reduced by 50 % in relation to control.
Test system: Green Algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) Duration: 72 hours Guideline: OECD No. 201, Paris 1984; static system; Guideline 92/69/EEC, C.3; in addition FIFRA-guideline was taken into account. Deviations: none
Test substance: Identification: Code: CA 2343 A; Batch No.: P.503005; Purity: 96.7%
Design: Pretest showed that the EC50 (72h) will be at about 10 mg/l. Therefore the following nominal test concentrations were chosen for the main test 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.6, 3.2, 6.4 and 12.8 mg test substance/l. After a preculture period of 3 days, Selenastrum capricornutum (initial cell density 10100 cells/ml) was exposed to nominal test concentrations.
Results: The temperature was maintained constant at 23+/-1 °C. Continuous illumination with cold white fluorescent light at 109umE/m2 sec. (approx. 8000 lux) was used. The pH of the test solutions was 8.0 - 8.1 and 8.0 - 8.2 at the start and and of exposure, respectively. The measured test concentrations of CA 2343 A were 0.19, 0.38, 0.76, 1.6, 2.9, 6.3, 12.7 mg/l and 0.18, 0.36, 0.71, 1.5, 2.9, 5.9, 12.0 mg/l at the start and the end of exposure, respectively. The measured concentrations were within 100 +/-20 % the nominal concentrations.
The following values are therefore based on nominal concentrations. Inhibition (growth rates): ErC 50 (0 - 72 h): 16.4 mg/l 95% confidence limit: 15.2 - 18.1 mg/l slope: 2.38 NOErC (0 - 72 h): 3.2 mg/l (significant on 5% level) Inhibition (areas under growth curves): EbC 50 (0 - 72 h): 8.6 mg/l 95% confidence limit: 7.3 - 10.2 mg/l slope: 2.69 NOEbC (0 - 72 h): 3.2 mg/l (significant on 5% level)
