PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Method: The test substance was weighed out and each portion was dissolved in 1 l of dilution
water. 10 g were dissolved in 1 l for the initial limit test as well as for the full test. For the latter test aliquots were diluted to 500 ml dilution water.
- Eluate: The dilution water used was DSWL, prepared from groundwater.

Details on results:
n the initial limit test all daphnias were immobile at a concentration of 10 g/l. In the full test there were no immobile daphnias at a concentration of 1.0 g/l, however, at this concentration the daphnias were slower, floating or had particles on their appandages.

It is likely that the results of the test are seriously affected by the high pH value.

floating or had particles on their appandages. At test concentrations of 1.8 g/l and 3.2g/l some daphnias were slower or floating. At a test concentration of 5.6 g/l some daphnias were floating. - Observations on body length and weight: none

Conclusions:
A limit test according to OECD 202 did not show any adverse effects to Daphnia magna at a test concentration of 1 g/l L-arginine.
A subsequent test with L-arginine according to OECD 202 with higher test concentrations showed the following results:
EC50 = 1.8 g/l; EC100 = 5.6 g/l; NOEC (mobility) was estimated to be 1.0 g/l and NOEC (condition) was estimated to be < 1.0 g/l.
