Description of key information

In contact with water 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate will hydrolyse slowly.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The hydrolyses of 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate was measured according to OECD guideline 111. The preliminary test showed that 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate was not decomposed at pH4 and 50°C in water after 5 days. However, at pH 7 and 9 the test substance decompose at 25 °C with a half-life of t1/2 = 4 days and t1/2 = 3.3 hours, respectively. Products by hydrolyses were methacrylic acid (CAS# 79-41-4) and 2-dimethylamino ethanol (CAS# 108-01-0). These results were confirmed by another OECD 211 guideline study. The hydrolyses was measured at 40 °C and showed a half-life at pH 4, 7 and 9 of 658 h, 12.4 h and 1.0 h, respectively.

In conclusion, in contact with water 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate will hydrolyse slowly.
