Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

Methyl 3-mercaptoproprionate was considered a non-sensitiser in a mouse local lymph node assay (Harlan Laboratories, Ltd, 2010). Stimulation indices (SI) were 2.87, 2.14 and 2.44 for 5, 10 and 25% methyl 3-mercaptoproprionate (in 4:1 acetone/olive oil), respectively.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Methyl 3-mercaptoproprionate was considered a non-sensitiser in a mouse local lymph node assay.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

No data have been found concerning respiratory sensitisation and there are no indications that methyl 3-mercaptoproprionate is a respiratory allegen.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
There are no specific data on respiratory sensitisation.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There is sufficient evidence to indicate that methyl 3-mercaptoproprionate is not a skin sensitiser and no classification is warranted for this endpoint under EU Dir. 67/548/EEC or GHS/CLP.

Although there are no data on respiratory sensitisation, there is no evidence that classification is warranted for this endpoint under EU Dir. 67/548/EEC or GHS/CLP.
