Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1998-06-16 to 1998
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The test substance Reactive Navy FC 63805 could not be ignited with a flame in the preliminary test. Thus, the test item is considered as non-flammable.
Executive summary:

A study was performed to determine the flammability of the test substance Reactive Navy FC63805. The study was performed according to EU method A.10 and in compliance with GLP. The test substance was filled into a mould and one end was attemptedt to be ignited with a flame. The substance could not be ignited. Accordingly, the main test was not performed since the substance couldn not be ignited and the pile did not burn over a distance of 200 mm during 4 min.

Description of key information

Reactive Navy FC63805 could not be ignited in a flammability test following EU method A.10 under GLP.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

A preliminary test was performed by means of placing the test substance in a mold of 250 mm length, and directing an ignition source at the pile at one end. The test substance must ignite and the pile must burn over a distance of 200 mm in 4 minutes in order to trigger the main test. In the case of Reactive Navy FC63805, the substance could not be ignited with a flame, therefore the main test was unnecessary.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance could no be ignited hence the main test was unnecessary and the substance can be considered as non-flammable.
