Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
22-Jul to 24-Jul-2003
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids))
GLP compliance:
no
Sample tested:
test mixture as specified
Parameter:
burning time of reaction over a distance of 200 mm
Result:
0 ms
Remarks on result:
mixture does not ignite and burn

Results

During the preliminary test the test item/cellulose mixture burntfor only a short time. The flame did not spread. The barium nitrate/cellulose mixture during the same test burned for 59 sec with a yellow, sizzling flame.

The burning time of the reaction mixture was longer than the burning time of the reference mixture, therefore the first step of the main test was performed.

During the main tests with the prepared test item/cellulose mixtures, the flame did not spread. Therefore the test was stopped according to the guideline. In conclusion, the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Description of key information

not oxidising

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

On the basis of the chemical structure the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on oxidising properties of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: Based on the chemical structure the substance is not oxidising.
