Description of key information

 Avian acute oral toxicity > 2000 mg a.i./kg b.w.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Five studies are available on the toxicity of triafamone (CAS No. 874195-61-6) to birds (Barfknecht, 2010; 2013). Three studies investigate the acute oral toxicity to Northern Bobwhite Quail (Colinus virginianus), Japanese Quail (Coturnix japonica), and Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus). The acute LD 50 values for all three bird species dosed with triafamone were above the highest treatment concentration of 2000 mg a.i./kg b.w..

Two further studies are available, with investigations of the avian dietary toxicity according to OECD guideline 205. The Bobwhite Quail (Colinus virginianus) and the Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) were used as test species. The LC50 values for juvenile Bobwhite Quails and Mallard Ducks in the 5-day dietary tests were higher than 5000 mg a.s./kg food.
