First-aid measures

After inhalation: Provide fresh air. In case of irritation of the respiratory tract seek medical advice.

After contact with skin:  Wash with plenty of soap and water. Change contaminated clothing

After contact with eyes: Rinse immediately carefully and thoroughly with eye-bath or water. In case of continued irritation, seek medical advice.

After ingestion:  Flush mouth with water and drink water. Seek medical attention if concerned.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Extinguishing materials should be selected according to the surrounding area.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: No known incompatabilities with extinguishing media. Water jet should not be used as this may spread the fire.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Substance is not classified as flammable but charcoal will burn at high temperatures. It may produce hazardous fumes like carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide. Explosive dust-air mixtures may form if the product is in powder form.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: In case of fire: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Special firefighting procedures: Use standard firefighting procedures and consider the hazards of other involved materials. Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Remove all sources of ignition. Keep dust to a minimum using a fine water spray if necessary.

Environmental precautions: No special environmental protection measures are necessary.

Methods for cleaning up/taking up: Collect mechanically keeping dust generation to a minimum. Re-Use or dispose of according to the section on waste disposal

Handling and storage

Handling:

Avoid generation of dust. Use in a well ventilated area

In case of burning charcoal indoors use local exhaust ventilation.

Storage

Keep container dry. Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place.

Do not store near to sources of ignition.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure controls:

There is no EU advised Occupational Exposure Limit for this substance.

The dust is generally classed as a 'nuisance dust' and should be kept within the limits set for each country, if appropriate.

Personal protection:

No personal protective clothing normally required.

Change contaminated clothing. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of work. Observe good standards of hygiene.

Exposure to dust should be minimised through ventilation or engineering controls.

If dust levels are above the country OEL for nuisance dust, a dust mask and coveralls should be worn.

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid: Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces. - No smoking.

Materials to avoid: Strong oxidizing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products: Will produce hazardous fumes of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide on burning.

Additional information: The product is stable under normal conditions of storage and handling.

Disposal considerations

Advice on disposal: Waste disposal according to official state regulations.

Contaminated packaging: Completely emptied packages can be re-cycled.
