- Details on test solutions:
- PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Method: The nominal 216 mg/L test solution was prepared by the addition of 0.432g of test material in culture medium to a final volume of 2000 ml. The solution was stirred for 15 min using a magnetic follower after which it was observed to be clear and colourless solution. All other test concentrations were prepared by dilution of aliquots of the 216 mg/L test solution to final volumes of 1000 ml using culture medium.

Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- The 72h EC50, based on yield at the end of the test, was 100 mg/L with a NOEC of 37 mg/L. The 72h EC50, based on growth rate, was>216 mg/L with a NOEC of 37 mg/L. Therefore it is concluded that in this study the test material showed some effects on the growth of the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, however, these effects were not of a sufficient magnitude for the substance to be considered toxic to algae.
- Executive summary:
Introduction
This study was carried out to determine the toxicity of the test material to the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. The test was conducted following the method described in:
OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals. Test Guideline 201, Freshwater Alga and Cyanobacteria, Growth Inhibition Test. Adopted 23 March 2006.
Results & Conclusions
The 72h EC50, based on yield at the end of the test, was 100 mg/L with a NOEC of 37 mg/L. The 72h EC50, based on growth rate, was>216 mg/L with a NOEC of 37 mg/L. Therefore it is concluded that in this study the test material showed some adverse effects on the growth of the green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, however, these effects were not of a sufficient magnitude for the test substance to be considered toxic to algae.
