Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties
Justification for type of information:
An expert statement was realised to evalute the explosiveness of the test substance. The appraisal of the composition and molecular structure indicates without doubt, that the reactive groups in the structural formula of the components of the test substance, could not lead to the conclusion that the test substance is capable of a rapid decomposition or reaction with a strong release of heat. This result was confirmed in analogy and extrapolation from data existing for comparable components. This theoretical result is supported by the physical properties of the test substance. During the experiments for the determination of the boiling point, only a endothermic heat effect was determined between 50°C and 320°C, which was deduced due to the evaporation of the test substance. Explosive test substances normally show a very high exothermic decomposition energy (> 2000 kJ/kg). This observation corresponds to the high relative self-ignition temperature of the test substance which was determined to be 355°C. In conclusion, the test substance was considered not to present any risk of explosion, and no experimental determination had to be performed according to the guideline in force (Grothe, 1999).
