The main test was performed in duplicate. A clear flash point was observed at a temperature of 176°C and 177°C, respectively. The mean value was calculated to be 176.5°C at the actual atmospheric pressure of 97.1 kPa. After correction for the atmospheric pressure, the flash point of the test substance was determined to be 178°C at 101.3 kPa using the Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the flash point of the test substance according to EU Method A.9 and ISO 2719 (Pensky-Martens closed cup method). In the preliminary test, a flash point of 180°C was found. Therefore (flash point above 65°C to be expected), the main study was performed using the Pensky-Martens flash point tester. The main test was performed in duplicate. A clear flash point was observed at a temperature of 176°C and 177°C, respectively. The mean value was calculated to be 176.5°C at the actual atmospheric pressure of 97.1 kPa. After correction for the atmospheric pressure, the flash point of the test substance was determined to be 178°C at 101.3 kPa. Under the study conditions, the flash point of the test substance was determined to be 178°C at 101.3 kPa (Tognucci, 1999).
