Additional information

Studies investigating the acute toxicity of Sorbitan tridocosanoate are available for two trophic levels (aquatic invertebrates and algae). The available test on the acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates and the toxicity to algae determined no detrimental effects within the range of water solubility.

Studies investigating the acute toxicity of the substance to fish are not available. In order to fulfil the standard information requirements, in accordance with Annex XI, 1.5, of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006,the assessment is based on read-across to the structurally related source substances Sorbitan laurate (CAS 1338-39-2) and Sorbitan stearate (CAS No.1338-41-6).A detailed analogue approach justification is provided within the Technical dossier (see IUCLID Section 13).

Toxic effects of the read-across substances were not observed. Therefore, the substance is considered not acutely toxic to aquatic organisms within the range of water solubility.

The results obtained in the toxicity control of the available ready biodegradability test indicate no inhibitory effects on the respiration of activated sludge organisms.
