In an unpublished study reported in this review article, the acute toxicity of chromium nitrate to Daphnia magna at 5 water hardnesses was measured and the 48-hr EC50 ranged from 16,800 µg chromium/L in soft water to 57,800 µg chromium/L in hard water.
