According to the REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006) Annex VII column 2: the study does not need to be conducted if: the organic substance or a homogeneous mixture of organic substances contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500 °C.
In a DSC analysis, decomposition of test substance occurs between 240 and 380 °C, with onset 291 °C and enthalpy of 463 J/g, thus the screening evaluation failed to evidence any reason of concern.
Justification for classification or non-classification
According to the definition set out in the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008),an explosive substance or mixture is a solid or liquid substance or mixture of substances which is in itself capable by chemical reaction of producing gas at such a temperature and pressure and at such a speed as to cause damage to the surroundings. Pyrotechnic substances are included even when they do not evolve gases.
Screening procedure failed to evidence any reason for concern, based on the thermal behaviour.
In conclusion, the substance can be considered non explosive, according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008).
