Conclusion on classification

No adverse effects could be demonstrated Daphnia magna and on the growth of Desmodesmus subspicatus after exposure to a saturated NbO solution for up to 48 h and 72 h, respectively. The tests were conducted under GLP and according to EC Directive 92/69/EC method C.2. and C.3, respectively. In both tests the saturated solutions were prepared at a nominal loading level of 100 mg/L in the respective test media, and were used in the tests after shaking for 24 h and subsequent filtration. The actual concentration of Nb in both test solutions was verified to be below 1 mg/L.

Therefore, it is concluded that the test substance is not toxic to freshwater algae and aquatic invertebrates. A classification for aquatic toxicity is not warranted.

This information is used in a read-across approach in the assessment of the target substance.
