Principles of method if other than guideline:
BIOWIN estimates the biodegradation of organic substances. The model is part of the EpiSuite program of the US-EPA. Estimations are made with BIOWIN version 4.10
In the BioWin program, the conclusion on Not ready biodegradation is estimated from two models.
• Biowin3 estimates complete ultimate biodegradation in a typical aquatic environment
• Biowin5 predicts biodegradability in the Japanese MITI i.e. OECD 301C test
BioWin gives a YES prediction for “Ready Biodegradation” if both of the following conditions are met:

• the ultimate biodegradation (Biowin3) results in weeks.
• MITI linear model (Biowin5) probability is < 0.5

For the determination of the biodegradation in water a QSAR-system is used. The conclusion of BIOWIN is that N-(2-hydroxypropyl) benzene sulfonamide is estimated to be NOT readily biodegradable in a standard MITI test (OECD test guideline 301C)

Executive summary:

The aerobic biodegradation of N-(2-hydroxypropyl) benzene sulfonamide was estimated by BIOWIN version 4.10.This QSAR model is included in the EPI Suite programs developed by Sycracuse Research Corporation for US-EPA. The conclusion of BIOWIN is that N-(2-hydroxypropyl) benzene sulfonamide is estimated to be not readily biodegradable in a standard MITI test (OECD test guideline 301C). The mineralisation is estimated to take weeks and the primary degradation occurs within a timeframe of days-weeks. Test results on biodegradation are not available. The calculated result can be used for classification and risk assessment.
