No reliable data is available for Chlor(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane (CAS No. 1719-57-9). The available daphnia study was assigned to Klimsch category 3 due to major procedural deficiencies. However, due to fast hydrolysis read across to the hydrolysis product (Chloromethyl)dimethylsilanol is warranted according to ECHA guidance that states that “for substances where hydrolytic DT50is less than 12 hours, environmental effects are likely to be attributed to the hydrolysis product rather than to the parent itself."
Hydrochloric acid is not classified for environmental hazards. Data relevant for the assessment of the other hydrolysis product, i.e. (Chloromethyl)dimethylsilanol can be taken from (Chloromethyl)methoxydimethylsilane (CAS#18143-33-4) which shares the same silanol hydrolysis product by fast hydrolysis. The hydrolysis half-life of (Chloromethyl)methoxydimethylsilane has been calculated by a validated QRMF (P.R. Fisk 2013 and 2014) to be 0.6 hours.The other hydrolysis product (methanol) is also not classified for environmental hazards and thus not relevant for the assessment.
For (Chloromethyl)methoxydimethylsilane a reliable daphnia test is available with a EC50 (48h) > 100 mg/L.
