Data on the acute toxicity of Amines, polyethylenepoly (PEPA) are available for three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae). The lowest acute effect concentration was determined in a study on the toxicity to the algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. After 72 hours an EC50 of 0.5 mg/L (nominal) based on the algal growth rate was determined. The determined NOEC (72 h) was 0.16 mg/L (nominal). In a short-term toxicity test with Daphnia magna an EC50(48 h) of 2.2 mg/L was recorded. For fish a LC50(96 h) of 100 mg/L was determined.

Long-term toxicity studies on fish or Daphnia are not available for Amines, polyethylenepoly (PEPA). Therefore read across to a chronic toxicity study on D. magna with the structural analogue N,N'-bis(2-aminoethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (CAS 112-24-3) was applied. In accordance with Article 13 (1) of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, "information on intrinsic properties of substances may be generated by means other than tests, provided that the conditions set out in Annex XI are met.” According to Annex XI, Item 1.5, of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 substances can be considered similar if their physicochemical, toxicological and ecotoxicological properties are likely to be similar or follow a regular pattern as a result of structural similarity. A detailed justification of the Analogue Approach is attached to IUCLID section 13. The available chronic toxicity test on Daphnia magna (OECD 202, part II) determined an EC10 (21 d) of 1.9 mg/L (nominal).

In a study on the toxicity to bacteria an EC50(2h) of 319.3 mg/L (nominal) based on the respiration rate of nitrifying bacteria was determined.
