Studies of this endpoint and sub-sections are waived. Justifications of the waiving are discussed below.

Testing of biodegradation in water and sediment (endpoint 5.2.2) is waived with the justification that MMVF note Q fibres are inorganic fibres which are slightly soluble through leaching of inorganic chemical species that appears naturally in drinking water.

Testing of biodegradation in soil (endpoint 5.2.3) is waived based on an evaluation that such a study is considered technically not feasible. The justification is that MMVF note Q fibres are inorganic and do not contain any organic carbon or any components which can be biologically degraded; furthermore, these fibres are expected to have low soil adsorption.

 

Thus, the methods on biodegradability are not applicable.
