Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Silver nitrate is a solid inorganic substance, and consists of colourless to white, odourless crystals. The melting point is 212°C and decomposes in the approximate temperature range from 250 – 440°C. According to reliable factual databases, the relative density of solid silver nitrate is 4.35. The average mean particle diameters (D50) is appro. 375 µm and a very low dustiness of 0.83 mg/g. Furthermore, silver nitrate is readily soluble in water (2150 g/L at 20°C), in which it dissolves into ions, which cannot evaporate. Finally, silver nitrate is assumed to be "very soluble" and the higher figure may be used for chemical safety assessment.
