First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Symptomatic treatment.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15

minutes.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of water.

Remove contaminated clothes and launder before using again.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Symptomatic treatment.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Foam, carbon dioxide, dry agent and water.

Product arising from burning: The substance is not combustible but it could burn if

involved in a fire, evolving noxious fumes (eg. carbon,

nitrogen and sulphur oxides and compounds containing

sulphur, copper and sodium). However there is no

experimental evidence to support the anticipated combustion

products.

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing

apparatus must be worn.

Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from the immediate vicinity.

Wear eye protection, chemical-resistant gloves, protective

clothing and a dust mask capable of adequately controlling

exposure.

Avoid dust formation. Absorb spillages of solutions with a

suitable inert material (e.g. sand or soil). Carefully

transfer the spillage to waste containers, or use an

approved sealed industrial vacuum machine. Containers filled

with waste material must be labelled in the same way as the

original Kayarus Supra Rubine BLN containers.

Clean the spillage area with water.

Dispose of waste material in accordance with local

regulations by landfill or incineration.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used under

conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with

any local regulations in order to avoid exposure.

Engineering controls are necessary to reduce exposure to the

substance. When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately

controlled other than by the use of personal protective

equipment, eye protection (safety glasses with side shields

are recommended) should be worn, and skin contact prevented

by using chemical-resistant gloves and protective clothing

(e.g. laboratory coat or uniform).

Furthermore, when respiratory protective equipment has to be

used, it must be capable of adequately controlling exposure,

be suitable for the purpose, and conform to the appropriate

international standards. A dust mask complying with prEN149,

FPP Grade 1 (i.e. which is equivalent to BS6016, type I) is

recommended.

Storage: There are no special storage conditions required.

Steel drums which are lined with a resin coating, or cartons

are considered adequate to store preparations containing the

substance.

Keep containers tightly closed when not in use.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None known.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will be used exclusively by industry and

confined to systems that are essentially open and batchwise

industrial operations. Handling of the substance will be by

trained operators, and it will be kept to a minimum.

Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from

minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically

or technically feasible, and such waste material will be

disposed of by incineration or landfill in accordance with

Section A6.1.3. In principle, it may be possible to recover

larger spillages of uncontaminated material for subsequent

use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: No health hazard has been identified from the Base Set tests

on the substance, and no chemical treatment is necessary or

practicable. However, adequate protection will be worn

during normal handling and when dealing with spillages to

ensure any unidentified or long-term health hazard is

minimised (see Section A2.3.1).

No chemical treatment is practicable to neutralise the

hazardous environmental properties of the substance.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers, waste material or spillages of

solutions mixed with inert material (eg. sand or soil) may

be disposed of by landfill at an authorised tip in

accordance with local regulations.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning

under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment

processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases

should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (eg. carbon,

nitrogen and sulphur oxides and compounds containing

sulphur, copper and sodium) could be formed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance could not normally be discharged to the sewage

system or the aqueous environment. Dye-houses normally pass

such waste water, which consists of a highly-dilute solution

of the substance, through a pre-treatment plant before

discharge as industrial effluent. Furthermore, the substance

is not likely to have adverse effects on sewage treatment

systems following accidental discharge, because it has been

shown not to be unduly toxic to sewage microorganisms.
