Description of key information

It is not useful to derive a PNEC for potassium hydrogencarbonate for the following reasons: potassium as well as carbonate is ubiquitously present in the environment, occurring naturally in minerals, soils and sediments, natural waters (oceans, lakes, rivers), biota and human beings; potassium hydrogencarbonate does not accumulate in living organisms, secondary poisoning through the food chain is considered of no concern for birds.

Additional information

According to REACH Annex X, 9.6.1, column 2, any need for testing of birds should be carefully considered taking into account the mammalian dataset that is available for potassium hydrogencarbonate. Further testing seems not useful as potassium hydrogencarbonate does not accumulate in living organisms, secondary poisoning through the food chain is considered of no concern for birds.
