PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
1,1'-(methylenedi-p-phenylene) bismaleimide
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: particulate/powder
Reference substance:
1,1'-(methylenedi-p-phenylene) bismaleimide
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

BMI is not readily biodegradable but the short hydrolysis half-life indicates that the parent compound is not persistent. Since no information is available on the persistence of the degradation products, BMI should be considered to be potentially persistent. BMI is not considered bioaccumulative (B) on the basis of a low experimentally-derived octanol-water partition coefficient (log Kow). BMI does not meet the criteria for toxicity (T) in terms of the hazard to humans, although should be considered toxic (T) with respect to the environmental criteria. Therefore, the substance as a whole can be considered not PBT/vPvB.
