Data on aquatic effects of MBS are available on three trophic levels (fish, daphnia and algae with read-across from MBT as main hydrolysis product) for short-term toxicity and on three trophic levels (fish, daphnia and alga, all with read-across from MBT as main hydrolysis product) for long-term effect. The most sensitive short-term toxicity was observed for fish with 96h-LC50 for fish of 0.31 mg/l. The most sensitive long-term effect was also to fish with 89d-NOEC of 0.041 mg/l. Meanwhile a 3h-EC50 of > 10000 mg/l to activated sludge was also reported as the toxicity of MBS to microorganism. MBS can be rapidly degraded by hydrolysis and photolysis, the hydrolysis half-life was determined to be ca. 24 hour. It is very likely that in the aquatic toxicity tests the observed effects were a combined effect caused by the parent substance and the degradation products together.
