Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure:

Inhalation: Remove victim from contaminated area. Apply necessary first

aid treatment. Immediately contact a physician.

Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes.

Immediately contact a physician for additional treatment.

Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash area with large amounts

of soap solution or water for 15 minutes. Immediately

contact a physician.

Ingestion: Immediately contact physician.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Dry chemical, carbon dioxide, foam or water.

Product arising from burning: Water and oxides of nitrogen and oxygen.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Firefighters should wear positive pressure self-contained

breathing apparatus (full face piece type).

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Ventilate area. Use specified protective equipment. Contain

and absorb on absorbent material. Place in a waste disposal

container. Flush area with water. Spread sand or grit since

wet area may be slippy.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance is manufactured as a 12% aqueous solution and

is never marketed in the solid form. No special engineering

controls are required although adequate ventilation should

be provided to maintain air contaminants below exposure

limits. Chemically resistant apron and protective gloves

(gauntlet type neoprene) should be worn along with splash

proof chemical goggles and face shield.

Storage: Store in tightly closed correctly labelled drums, away from

oxidizers, in a cool ventilated location. Store only in

containers resistant to

caustic substances. Keep containers closed when not in use.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Packaging for the preparation includes:

1) Unlined high density polyethylene 1000 litre containers

2) Unlined mild steel 250 imperial gallon containers

3) Unlined stainless steel 1000 cylindrical semi-bulk

containers

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Use levels of this material are very low. Typically the

product will be fed to cooling tower water at a level of 0.5- 2 ppm (typically 1 ppm). Therefore, once applied, there is

no possibility of recovery.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Water treated with this material is not hazardous due to the

low application dosage. Therefore, neutralisation is not necessary. For spilled material, dilute acetic acid can be

applied to reduce its corrosive nature.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: This is the preferred method of destruction for the product

in treated water because of the low dosage involved.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The concentrated product containing butyl benzotriazole, sodium salt should be destroyed by incineration at standard

industrial incinerator temperatures (approximately 1000°C).

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: None.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: None.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable.
