The biodegradation potential of the substance has been assessed in a CO2 evolution test according to OECD TG 301B. After 28 days 88% biodegradation was observed demonstrating that the substance is completely biodegraded and that the substance is considered as readily biodegradable.

Based on these results on biodegradation, (hydroxyethyl)urea is expected to be quickly biodegraded not only in water but based on the high water solubility and low calculated Koc also in soil and sediment.
