Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

EC50 > 100 mg/L, activated sludge, OECD 209, EEC L133 s. 118-122, Grade 1996

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The effect of the test material on the respiration rate of activated sludge was investigated in line with GLP and in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 209 and EEC L133 s. 118-122 (30 May 1988). Activated sludge was exposed to nominal concentrations of the test material at 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L. Blank controls and 3,5-dichlorophenol as a positive reference substance were run concurrently for comparison.

Under the conditions of the test no inhibition was observed within the concentration range tested. The EC50 was therefore > 100 mg/L, the highest concentration tested. It is considered that the test material is not toxic to bacteria. The EC50 obtained from the reference substance (EC50 = 16.5 mg/L) and the respiration rates of the blank controls were within the acceptable range and fulfilled the validity criteria.

The study was performed according to GLP, in line with standardised guidelines. Accordingly the study has been assigned a reliability score of 1 in line with the principles for assessing data quality set out by Klimisch (1997). The study is considered to be reliable, relevant and adequate for the purposes of risk assessment.
