Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Dimethyl glutarate was readily biodegradable. By day 7, 70% biodegradability was achieved. The Theoretical Oxygen Demand was calculated as 1.6 mg O2 per mg of active substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

The study available for this endpoint (Gannon J., 1997) was conducted (equivalent or similar to) according to the following OECD Guideline 301 D (Ready Biodegradability: Closed Bottle Test) and GLP principles. The purity and composition of the sample is not described.

In a Closed Bottle System. biodegradation was measured as the loss of dissolved oxygen within the closed bottle. If the dissolved oxygen loss at Day 28 is >= 60%, and this level of biodegradability has been exceeded within 14 days of exceeding 10% of biodegradability, then the chemical is considered "Readily Biodegradable."
