Respiration inhibition of activated sludge further to sodium perchlorate exposure has been determined according to ISO norm 8192. This method provides indication about inhibition, stimulation effects of sodium perchlorate on micro-organisms exposed up to 3 hours.
At the highest concentration tested (700 mg/L of Perchlorate anion), sodium perchlorate did not inhibit sludges respiration after 30 minutes of exposure. This concentration presented an inhibition effect of 25% after 3 h of exposure. Therefore, EC50 was determined as > 700 mg/L.
