Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from exposure, rest and keep warm. Administer oxygen

if breathing becomes difficult. Seek medical attention. In

all cases, remove contaminated clothing.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with water. Seek medical attention if irritation

arises.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with water. Seek medical attention if irritation

arises.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. Seek medical attention if

adverse symptoms arise.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Recommended extinguishing agents: Dry chemical or foam

should be used. Spray adjacent drums with water to keep

cool.

Product arising from burning: Products arising from pyrolysis: Combustion products may

contain hydrogen fluoride gas and other toxic fluorine

compounds together with some carbon oxides.

Protective equipment: Protective equipment: A breathing apparatus should be worn.

Evacuate personnel from the vicinity.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from the vicinity. The substance is a

volatile liquid which will readily evaporate to give high

vapour concentrations. The vapour is heavier than air and

may accumulate in low-lying areas. Wear a breathing

apparatus, contain spillage and absorb in inert material

(eg. sand, earth, vermiculite). Dispose of waste by

incineration. Switch off all sources of ignition and naked

flames.

Handling and storage

Handling: Ensure good ventilation when handling. Do not breathe

vapour, the substance is a volatile liquid which is weakly

anaesthetic at high concentrations (~10%).

Storage: Store in stainless steel tanks, cooled to 5 deg C.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Other dangers: The liquid is not flammable but it is

possible that the vapour may form a flammable mixture in

air.

Chemical reaction with water: Chemical reaction with water: None reported.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Spent or contaminated material may be returned to the

manufacturer for reclamation.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable, no known hazardous effects.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method. An approved facility with waste gas

treatment to remove hydrogen fluoride and other

fluoro-compounds should be used.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended. However, if the substance should

accidentally enter a water purification system no

unfavourable effects are envisaged due to its high

volatility.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will not enter the public domain.
