First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: symptomatic treatment.
Emergency measure - Eyes: irrigate promptly with clean water and obtain medical
attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: wash with copious amounts of water.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Fluorine, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and (?)soot may
be produced along with the highly toxic fumes of the
volatilised substance itself. Foam, CO2, dry powder or
vapourising liquid may be used to fight fires. Respirators
should be used.
Accidental release measures
Emergency measures in case of spillage: Absorb spillages on sand and transfer to waste containers
for disposal at an approved, and regulated, waste-disposal
site; then clean the spillage area with water and
detergent.
Handling and storage
Handling: Normal precautions should be taken to avoid ingestion,
skin, or eye contact, or the inhalation of vapour; goggles
and gloves (Neoprene rubber prefered to pvc) to be worn;
and it should be handled only in well-ventilated areas so
as to avoid the build up of flammable vapour.
Storage: Containers to be kept tightly sealed and stored in a cool
place away from sources of ignition.

Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from a minor spillage or discharge to effluent is
not practicable but a large spillage would be diverted to a
holding tank for appropiate treatment and eventual
discharge to the sewage system. Checks routinely carried
out on the reaction procedure etc usually ensure that the
factory discharge will contain less than 0.5 mg/l of the
substance.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: providing the substance is diluted to a concentration of
5.6 mg/l or below, there is likely to be no harmful effect
on aquatic life.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: the substance may be rendered harmless by burning under
carefully controlled conditions.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: the substance is unlikely to have any adverse effect on
either aerobic or anaerobic processes at sewage works. It
is also unlikely to be appreciably degraded in aerobic
processes of short duration nor removed significantly by
absorption on sludge ("bioelimination") and so is capable
of passing largely unchanged through an effluent treatment
plant; however its high volatility means that it is
unlikely to accumulate in water systems and therefore not
likely to pose a hazard to aquatic life.
