Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Commercial samples of the registered substance are produced as aqueous solutions. When Sophorolipids was first registered, many of the available physical chemical studies had been performed on an aqueous solution. This is an unsuitable test item for many physicochemical tests such as melting point, boiling point, vapour pressure, surface tension and density since the results will reflect the water present as opposed to the Sophorolipid content. These studies have been kept in the dossier for transparency reasons but marked as disregarded. For the current REACH upgrade, a sample of Freeze Dried Sopholiance was prepared. Freeze drying, is a low temperature dehydration process that involves freezing the product, lowering pressure, then removing the ice by sublimation. The resulting solid matter represents the neat / pure registered substance. All required physicochemical studies were repeated using Freeze Dried Sopholiance as the test item. These have been assigned as the key studies.
