- A stock solution (100 mg/L of the test item were weighed out) was freshly prepared with natural river water (Table 3, diluted by factor 2 with demineralized water) prior to the start of the exposure (at 0 hours) and prior to the renewal of the test solutions (at 24 hours). The stock solution was treated with ultrasound for 5 minutes at room temperature and mixed thoroughly by manual agitation.

- Executive summary:
The 48-h-acute toxicity of Quarternary ammonium compounds, tri-C8-C10-alkylmethyl, Me sulfates to Daphnia magna was studied under static conditions according to OECD Guideline 202 (2004). Daphnids were exposed to control and test chemical at 5 concentrations (1.41, 2.91, 5.21, 13.4, 32.3 mg/L) in natural river water for 48 h.
Mortality/immobilization was observed daily.
The 48 hours-EC10 for Daphnia magna was 28.1 µg/L (95% confidence limits: 6.01 – > 32.3 µg/L) for the test item.
The 48 hours-EC50 for Daphnia magna was 31.3 µg/L (95% confidence limits: 6.85 – > 32.3 µg/L) for the test item.
This study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for an acute toxicity study with freshwater invertebrates.
