Description of key information

 


The registered substance is an Alkyl phosphate and stearyl amine salts (EC = 952-252-4), mainly composed by primary alkylamines (CAS 90640-32-7, UVCB) and phosphoric acid, octadecyl ester (CAS 39471-52-8, Multi-Constituent). Both elements present a long hydrogenated (saturated) carbon chain combinaison mono/diester phosphate with primary amine (16 to 18 carbon atoms). 


 


Regarding Phosphoric acid, octadecyl ester the No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) was determined to be 1000 mg a.i./kg dry soil or all six plant species according OECD 208 and GLP.


 


The NOEC for terrestrial plants has been determined to be > 100 mg/kg dw for tallow alkyl amine (CAS = 68037-95-6; old CAS 61790-33-8). This data correspond to the worst case value and have been used as read-across for the registered substance.


 


It is then converted to the corresponding value of the salt, resulting to a NOEC of > 266 mg/kg dw soil (MW of Amines, hydrogenated tallow = 267, MW of the registered substance = 710,7 g/mol (256 g/mol Primary alkylamine salt + 454,7 g/mol Phosphoric acid, octadecyl ester)).

Alkylamine toxicity to terrestrial plants


The growth test with terrestrial plants was conducted according to the OECD Guideline 208 by Noack (2000) using tallow alkyl amine (CAS 68037 -95 -6; old CAS 61790 -33 -8) as test substance. Test systems were a monocotyledon (oat) and two dicotyledons (red clover and radish). Seeds of each plant were exposed to different concentrations of tallow alkyl amine (1, 10, 100 mg test item per kg soil dry weight) and a control. No vehicles were used to dissolve the test substance. The toxic effects of the soil incorporated test item on the emergence of seedlings and the early stages of growth were determined by visual observations and dry weight determination. No phytotoxic effects were observed throughout the test in all replicates resulting in a LC50 (emergence) and a EC50 (growth) of > 100 mg/kg dw. As no effect on growth and emergence for all three species was observed at the highest concentration of 100 mg/kg dw the NOEC is > 100 mg/kg dw. as well. The NOEC can be used as a chronic endpoint representing autotrophs (producer) in the terrestrial compartment.
