Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity data are not available for cerium neodecanoate. Therefore, read-across to the assessment entities cerium cations and neodecanoic acid anions is applied since, upon dissolution of cerium neodecanoate, cerium cations and neodecanoate anions determine fate and toxicity in the environment.

Reliable data for soluble cerium substances indicate a EC50 value of 6.9 mg Ce/L for the immobilisation of the freshwater invertebrate Daphnia magna according to OECD guideline 202. Acute toxicity of neodecanoic acid (versatic 10) also measured by immobility of the water flea (Daphnia magna) was evaluated in freshwater and a 48-h LL50 of >1000 mg/L was derived. Thus, cerium neodecanoate appears to have some potential for toxicity to aquatic invertebrates based on the toxicity of its dissociation products.
