Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

28-d EC10 = 2 mg V/kg soil dw (OECD 220, Enchytraeus crypticus, reproduction)

28-d EC10 = 22 mg V/kg soil dw (OECD 222, Eisenia fetida, reproduction)

56-d LC50 = 340 mg V/kg soil dw (OECD 222, Eisenia fetida mortality)

Corrected for the molecular weight of vanadylhydrogenphosphate-hemihydrate (CAS no. 93280-40-1): E. crypticus: 28-d EC10 = 6.8 mg/kg soil dw; E. fetida: 28-d EC10 = 75 mg/kg soil dw; 56-d LC50 = 1156 mg/kg soil dw

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for soil macroorganisms:
1 156 mg/kg soil dw
Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for soil macroorganisms:
6.8 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

No data are available for the toxicity of vanadylhydrogenphosphate-hemihydrate (CAS 93280 -40 -1) to terrestrial organisms. Therefore, data available for other vanadium compounds is used in a read-across approach.

Two OECD guideline studies are available for the effects of sodium metavanadate (CAS 13718 -26 -8) to Eisenia fetida (OECD 222) and Enchytraeus crypticus (OECD 220) (Lanno, 2016; Ohio University). The studies were performed under GLP. The worms were exposed to spiked natural soils which were tested immediately after spiking and also after ageing. Test concentratinos were verified using ICP-OES after aqua regia digestion of the soil samples. The results are based on Vanadium concentrations.

A further study is disregarded as the test substance was applied only to the surface of the soil in the test vessels, but was not mixed into the soil.

An overview on the results is given in the following table.

For the assessment of the toxicity of vanadylhydrogenphosphate-hemihydrate (CAS no. 93280-40-1), the effect value based on the vanadium concentration must be corrected for the molecular weight of vanadylhydrogenphosphate-hemihydrate (29.4% V). The corrected effect values are given above (see “Description of key information”).
