Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic invertebrates: EC50 (48h) > 100 mg/l

Aquatic plants: ErC50 (7d) > 482 mg/l

Additional information

No data on target substance was availble, thus the assessment was based on data on Similar Substance 01 and 02. Details are available in section 13.

Target substance is soluble in water, i.e. 82 g/l at 20 °C and pH 7.05 and it is not ready biodegradable. Based on structural similarity to target substance, Similar Substance 01 is expected to be soluble and ready biodegradable; Similar Substance 02 is soluble in water, i.e. 4.38 g/l at 20 °C, and it is not ready biodegradable.

Fish

Similar Substance 01 was tested for short-term toxicity on fish. Only a summary of results was available, indicating a low toxicity after a 48 -hour exposure, i.e. LC50 > 1000 mg/l.

Aquatic invertebrates

Similar Substance 02 was tested for acute toxicity to daphnia magna in a 48 -hour study according to OECD 202. Effect concentrations in terms of immobilisation were determined:

EC0 (48h) = 10 - 100 mg/l

EC50 (48h) > 100 mg/l

This result was confirmed by an EC50 value of 209 mg/l, reported with few details on test procedure and results.

Aquatic plants other than algae

Similar Substance 02 was tested for toxicity to lemna minor in a 7-day static test, according to OECD guideline 221. During the test, measured concentration decreased, especially at low concentrations, likely due to adsorption on roots of plants. Geometric means of measured concentrations were used in the assessement. Effect concentrations were determined in terms of inhibition of growth rate and yield of both frond number and dry weight. After a 7-day exposure, estimated ErC50 > 482 mg/l for frond number and ErC50 > 482 mg/l for dry weight were determined.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), the threshold of classification of a substance for acute aquatic toxicity is 1 mg/l. This limit is compared with LC50 (96h) for fish, EC50 (48 h) for crustacea and EC50 (72 - 96 h or 7d) for aquatic plants. Moreover, in case of lack of chronic data, the potential for chronic toxicity is identified by appropriate combinations of acute toxicity data and lack of biodegradability. The threshold of classification for chronic toxicity is 100 mg/l.

Based on available data, no classification was applied.
