First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety. Immediately remove contaminated clothing. Keep victim warm, in a stabilized position and covered. Apply artificial respiration if necessary. If the casualty is unconscious: Place the victim in the recovery position.

If inhaled:

Move victims into fresh air and seek medical attention.

On skin contact:

Immediately wash affected area thoroughly with plenty of water. If symptoms persist, consult a physician for treatment.

On contact with eyes:

Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:

Immediately rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water, do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: skin corrosion, severe irritation, Eye irritation, further symptoms are possible

Hazards: No hazard is expected under intended use and appropriate handling.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Symptomatic treatment (decontamination, vital functions).

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media: Suitable extinguishing media: dry powder, dry sand.

Unsuitable extinguishing media for safety reasons: water, carbon dioxide

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Reacts violently with water. In the case of fire, highly flammable and/or corrosive gases / vapors may be released.

Advice for fire-fighters

Special protective equipment: wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

Further information:

Collect contaminated extinguishing water separately, do not allow to reach sewage or effluent systems. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Wear personal protective equipment. Keep away from sources of ignition. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Use breathing apparatus if exposed to vapours/dust/aerosol.

Environmental precautions

Do not allow substance to enter soil, bodies of water or sewage canals. Observe regulations on prevention of water pollution.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Cover with dry sand, correctly dispose of recovered product immediately in compliance with existing regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Wear personal protective equipment. Observe the rules usually applicable when handling chemicals. Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Breathing must be protected when large quantities are decanted without local exhaust ventilation. Protect against moisture.

Protection against fire and explosion:

Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Keep away from sources of ignition. Fire extinguishers should be kept handy. Avoid dust formation.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Store in the original receptacle, keeping this tightly sealed, under cool and dry conditions. Segregate from acids and acid forming substances.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection: wear respiratory equipment with suitable filter or a self contained respiratory apparatus.

Hand protection:

Applies to handling for longer periods or of large amounts

Glove material: Nitrile rubber

Material thickness: 0.4 mm

Method: DIN EN 374

Applies to handling for brief periods or of small amounts

Glove material: nitrile rubber, for example: Dermatril 740

Material thickness: 0.11 mm

Method: DIN EN 374

Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (e.g. EN 166) and face shield.

Body protection: Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting boots, chemical-protection suit (according to EN 14605 in case of splashes or EN ISO 13982 in case of dust).

General safety and hygiene measures: Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe dust.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: No hazardous reactions if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Chemical stability: The product is stable if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Possibility of hazardous reactions:

Risk of spontaneous ignition if exposed to air and elevated temperatures.

Exothermic reaction with: Water, Acids, Atmospheric oxygen, Oxidizing agents.

Incompatible materials: Avoid water, acids, oxygen, oxidizing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products: sodium hydroxide, ethyl alcohol.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Hydrolyze product with excess of water under usage of the personal protection equipment and dispose of in accordance with local authority regulations.

Contaminated packaging: Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; Do not reuse empty containers and dispose of in accordance with the regulations issued by the appropriate local authorities.
