Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No experimental bioaccumulation data are available for MDI category substances. Although the predicted log octanol-water partition coefficient (log Kow) data indicate constituents of MDI annex VIII and above substances have the potential to bioaccumulate, predicted bioconcentration factors (BCF) suggest otherwise. The results of the Tier 1 BCF screening calculations (BCFBAF v2.01) indicate that representative components of all substances have predicted BCF values <2000 L/kg based on regression-based estimates, except for one consitituent in one substance with a BCF of 16900 L/kg.

MDI category substances only occur in a grease base designed to minimise leaching of the thickener. As the log octanol-water partition coefficient are typically predicted to be above 6, they are expected to reside within the grease base oil matrix and as such, the levels of exposure will be minimal and bioaccessibility will be restricted (as discussed further in Section 5.6 of IUCLID). On the basis of the information and data provided, MDI category members are not expected to be bioaccumulative.
