Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Eyes: In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty
of water, immediate emergency treatment in a specialized
hospital is necessary.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash off immediately with plenty of water, immediate
emergency treatment in a specialized hospital is necessary.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Immediate emergency treatment in a specialized hospital is
necessary.
Fire-fighting measures
powder.
Use water spray to cool closed containers. Collect
contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must
not be discarded into drains.
Product arising from burning: Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, Lithiumoxide
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.
Accidental release measures
ignition. Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not smoke.
Cover any spilled material with limestone powder.
Take up spilt material avoiding formation of dust (e. g. by
using an approved industrial vacuum cleaner). Carefully
transfer the spillage into waste containers (steel drums
with a lid) which have to be tightly closed and labelled
according to TRGS 201.
While taking up the spillage and cleaning the polluted area
prevent skin and eye contact as well as inhalation of the
substance by wearing appropriate personal protective
equipment (see section "Handling").
Do not flush into surface waters or sanitary sewer system.
Substance should not be released into the environment. If
the product contaminates rivers, lakes or drains, inform
respective authorities.
Handling and storage
Do not breathe dust. Exclude contact with skin and eyes.
Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Keep
away from food, drink and animal feeding stuff. When using,
do not eat, drink or smoke. Wash hands before breaks and at
the end of the workday.
Permanently installed emergency showers, adequate washing
facilities and conspicuously marked eye-douche stations
should be provided in the immediate vicinity of the working
area.
Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection:
Effective dust mask. Half mask with particle filter P2
(EN143).
Hand protection:
Protective gloves, nitrile rubber.
Eye protection:
Tightly fitting safety goggles.
Skin and body protection:
Flame retardant protective clothing, Nomex.
Handling
The substances reacts immediately with water to lithium
hydroxide and 2-methoxyethanol. Product is hygroscopic.
Handle under inert gas. Use product only in closed system.
Protect from humidity. Use secure local exhaust ventilation
if dust formation during use is possible. The extracted air
may only be returned to the working area after sufficient
cleaning using approved equipment.
Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Take
precautionary measures against static discharges.
Storage: Store the substance in the original packing or other secure
containers which are labelled according to the regulations.
Keep them tightly closed in a dry, cool and
well-ventilated place. Keep under inert gas. Secure
containers against falling by taking the appropriate
measures. Avoid residues on the outside of the containers.
Observe prohibitions on the joint storage of different
materials (see Technical Rule 514).
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Packaging in steel bottles (at the moment 127 L content,
later 450 L content).

- Remarks:
- Transport code: UN-Nr. 3206
Transport: Proper shipping name: ALKALI METAL ALCOHOLATES;
SELF-HEATING; CORROSIVE, N. O. S.: Lithium-2-methoxyethoxide
For in-plant transportation: Use tightly closed and
unbreakable containers; secure the containers against
falling down, and label them properly.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Stability and reactivity
decomposition at ca. 263 °C and above.
Chemical reaction with water: The substances reacts immediately with water to lithium
hydroxide and 2-methoxyethanol. Keep away from water.
Dust explosion: Dust explosion: Not applicable (substance is only used as
liquid preparation).
Dust explosion determined by test: N
Disposal considerations
when used.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: A. Combustion
B. Careful hydrolysis followed by neutralisation with
diluted acids.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: A. Combustion
B. Careful hydrolysis followed by neutralisation with
diluted acids.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The incineration results in CO2, water, lithium salts or
lithium hydroxide.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance reacts spontaneously with water or air
humidity to lithium hydroxide and 2-methoxyethanol. Sewage
water is purified in the sewage treatment plant of the
production plant.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not known
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not relevant, since the substance is completely converted
when used by industry and is not made available to the
publik.
