EC50 for microorganisms:
32.3 mg/L

Additional information

An activated sludge respiration inhibition test, following the OECD 209 guideline, was conducted on 4-amino-m-cresol. The inoculum was non-adapted activated sludge collected from the aeration tank of the company’s sewage treatment plant. This treatment facility receives predominantly domestic sewage. The respiratory rate inhibition of sludge microorganisms was determined after 3 hour incubation time. The nominal test concentrations were 0.477, 1.56, 4.88, 15.6 and 50 mg/L.

The 3 hour EC50 of 4 -amino-m-cresol for inhibition of respiration rate of activated sludge was 32.3 mg/L, based on the nominal concentration of the active ingredient.

The 3 hour EC50 value for the reference material, 3,5-dichlorophenol, was 8.20 mg/L. This EC50 value was in the accepted range of 5 - 30 mg/L. The two control respiration rates differed not more than 15% in this study. Hence, the validity criteria established in the guideline was fulfilled.
