Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other:
Version / remarks:
internal method : see protocol below
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test item is a mixture of constituents and transition from liquid to solid will not be sharp. The „Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance” from ECHA (2008), mentioned that "Melting points are not normally carried out for mixtures“. In addition, according to column 2, point 7.2 of Annex VII of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH), "The study does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of -20°C“.
Therefore it is recommended in the EFFA/EFEO guideline „The Registration for REACH of Natural Complex Substances used as Fragrance Ingredients” to describe the state of the essential after equilibrium at +20°C, +5°C and -20°C.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Visual observation after equilibrium at +20°C, +5°C and -20°C.

APPARATUS

Refrigerator (+5°C) Freezer (-20°C) Thermometer (-50°C to 200°C; +/- 0,5°C)

PROCEDURE

x ml of sample were stored at +5°C in a refrigerator for 2 days in a glass test tube.

Another x ml of the sample were stored at -20°C in a freezer for 2 days in a glass test tube too. Temperature was controlled with a thermometer placed inside the refrigerators for the duration of the experiment, before introducing the samples, after 24 h and at the end of the period. The state of the samples were described before storage and after equilibration at low temperatures.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The freezing point is below -20°C.
Executive summary:

The physical state of the test substance was observed after 2-day equilibration at +20°C, +5°C and -20°C, according to EFFA/EFEO Recommendations for NCS. The sample remained liquid.
