The results of a semi-static exposure test on Pimephales promelas as presented by Brooke and co-workers in 1984 indicate that propylenediamine (CAS 78 -90 -0) is not acutely harmful to fish if the stock solution is adjusted to the pH of the dilution water. The 96 -h LC50 based on measured test item concentrations was determined to be 1010 mg/L. Broderius et al. (1995), also determined a 96 -hour LC50 value of 1267 mg/L for Pimephales exposed in a continuous flow-through system. No information is given whether the test solutions were neutralised.
It can be concluded that with high probability propylenediamine is acutely not harmful to fish.
