Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Stability

Hydrolysis:

The Hydrolysis rate constant of 4-chlororesorcinol is estimated to be 0.0000000001665983 cm3/molecule-sec. at half life of 0.770 hrs. The

estimated half life of the substance indicates that the substance 4-chlororesorcinol is rapidly hydrolysable.

Biodegradation

Biodegradation in water:

The screening test to the ready biodegradability of the substance was calculated using the software BIOWIN v4.10.

The results indicate that 4-chlororesorcinol is not expected to be readily biodegradable.

Biodegradation in water and sediment:

Based on the Level III Fugacity Model, the half-life period of the 4-chlororesorcinol was estimated. The half life period of 4-chlororesorcinol in water is observed to be 15 days (360 hrs.) while in sediment it is 135 days (3240 hrs). Based on these half life values of 4-chlororesorcinol, it is concluded that the chemical is not persistent in water where as it is persistent in sediment. However, since there is negligible diffusion of the substance in the sediment as evident from the reported data (0.275 % in sediment) and hence persistence in the sediment compartment is not likely to becritical.

Biodegradation in soil:

EPI Suite has estimated that 4-chlororesorcinol is expected to be found predominantly in soil and its persistence estimate is based on its transformation in this medium. Its half-life in soil, 30 days (720 hrs),does not exceeds the threshold of 120 days as per Annex XIII of REACH. Therefore, 4-chlororesorcinol is estimated to be not persistent in the soil environment.

Bioaccumulation

Bioaccumulation: aquatic / sediment:

The estimated bioconcentration factor (BCF) for 4-chlororesorcinol is 7.155 L/kg, that does not exceed the bioconcentration threshold of 2000. Thus it is concluded that 4-chlororesorcinol is not expected to bioaccumulate in the food chain because it does not exceed the BCF criteria.

Transport and distribution:

Adsorption/desorption:

The partition coefficient of test substance 4-chlororesorcinol (CAS No.95-88-5) was determined as per the HPLC method (OECD Guideline-121). The Log Koc value was found to be 1.567± 0.002 at 25°C. This indicates that 4-chlororesorcinol will show low sorption to soil alongwith migration potential to groundwater.
