Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
July 22nd, 2016.
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
> 120 s
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Comments

1

-

The sample ignited only in the place where the flame was applied. The flame extinguished about 120s after taking off the flame of the burner. Time of applying the flame: 30, 60, 120s.

3

-

Since all results were negative, the test item was found to be not flammable.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Remarks:
not flammable according to EU criteria.
Conclusions:
The sample was only ignited at the point where the flame was directly applied, the flame did not propagate and died out after 120s. The test item is not flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test item was determined according to EU Method A.10 (GLP study). The substance was formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting base plate, and a hot flame was applied to one end of the powder train for up to 2 minutes. After 30, 60 or 120s, the sample was only ignited at the point where the flame was directly applied, the flame did not propagate and died out after 120s. Therefore, the test item was found to be not flammable according to test A.10 criteria.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
Practical experience in manufacture and handling shows that the substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The substance is not classified as flammable in contact with water based on the chemical structure and the experience in handling / use which shows that the substance does not react with water.

Description of key information
