Biodegradation in water: screening tests

Description of key information

The ready biodegradability of the test substance was assessed according to OECD Test Guideline 301 F using a Manometric Respirometry method.  The test substance undergoes 10 % biodegradation after 28 days under the conditions of the test. 
The inherent biodegradability of the test substance was assessed according to OECD Test Guideline 302 C using a modified MITI method. The test substance undergoes 8 % biodegradation after 28 days (7% after 55 days) under the conditions of the test.

Additional information

The ready biodegradability of the test substance was assessed according to OECD Test Guideline 301 F using a Manometric Respirometry method. The test substance did not inhibit the intrinsic respiration of the inoculums at the test concentration and was therefore considered to be non-toxic to the inoculum at the test concentration. The test substance underwent 10 % biodegradation after 28 days under the conditions of the test. The test substance should be regarded as not readily biodegradable according to this test.

The inherent biodegradability of the test substance was assessed according to OECD Test Guideline 302 C using a modified MITI method. At the test concentration, the test substance did not significantly inhibit the intrinsic respiration of the inoculum.

The test substance undergoes 8 % biodegradation after 28 days (7% after 55 days) under the conditions of the test. Therefore the test substance should be regarded as not inherently biodegradable according to the test. Biodegradation is considered to have started when it exceeds the 10% level. Thus it is concluded that under the above test conditions no biodegradation was observed.
