Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

2,3 -xylenol is harmonised classified Aq. Chronic 2.

Short-term (acute) aquatic hazard

  1. LC50 aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna): 2.892 mg/L

  2. ErC50 algae: > 10 mg/L

No classification for Aq. Acute 1 is warranted since the LC50 for crustacea and ErC50 for algae are > 1 mg/L.

Long-term (chronic) aquatic hazard

Chronic toxicity data:

NOEC algae: 0.0316 mg/L based on growth rate inhibition.

Acute toxicity data:

  1. LC50 aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna): 2.892 mg/L

  2. ErC50 algae: > 10 mg/L

2,3 -xylenol is predicted to be not readily biodegradable. Based on this prediction and the observed aquatic toxicity (NOEC algae < 0.1 mg/L), an Aq. Chronic 1 classification is warranted.
