Solubility in organic solvents/fat solubility:
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical 2-(3,6-dihydroxy-2,4,5,7-tetraiodoxanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid, aluminium salt is widely used as a food colour. For this use, surface activity is not a desired property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The flash point of Test item 2-(3,6-dihydroxy-2,4,5,7-tetraiodoxanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid, aluminium salt (CAS No. 12227-78-0) is 221.66 °C at 966.1 hPa.
Auto flammability:
The chemical 2-(3,6-dihydroxy-2,4,5,7-tetraiodoxanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid, aluminium salt (Common Name: C.I. Pigment Red 172) does not catch fire sponstaneously when exposed to air at normal conditions of temperature and pressure. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver and the chemical is not very likely to be "Auto Flammable".
Flammability:
The NFPA rating for Flammability of the chemical 2-(3,6-dihydroxy-2,4,5,7-tetraiodoxanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid, aluminium salt (Common Name: C.I. Pigment Red 172) varies from 0 to 1 indiacting that the chemical is not very likely to be "Flammable". Thus, this end point was considered for waiver, since the chemical is most likely to be "Non-flammable".
Explosiveness:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of the chemical 2-(3,6-dihydroxy-2,4,5,7-tetraiodoxanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid, aluminium salt (Common Name: C.I. Pigment Red 172). Thus, the chemical is unlikely to be explosive.
Oxidising properties:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance 2-(3,6-dihydroxy-2,4,5,7-tetraiodoxanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid, aluminium salt (Common Name: C.I. Pigment Red 172) is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substance containing oxygen or iodine and these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemical is not expected to exhibit oxidising property.
pH:
The pH determination of test item 2-(3,6-dihydroxy-2,4,5,7-tetraiodoxanthen-9-yl)benzoic acid, aluminium salt (CAS No. 12227-78-0) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122.
