Description of key information

The toxicity of 4-[(3-hydroxypropyl)amino]-3-nitrophenol) to the unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according to the principles of OECD 201. The aim of the study was to determine the NOEC, LOEC, EC10, EC20 and EC50 values of growth rate and yield overa period of 72 hours. The study was conducted under static conditions with an initial cell density of 5X10E3 - 10E4 cells/mL. Five concentrations were tested in a geometrical series with a dilution factor of 2 : 6.25 - 12.5 - 25.0 - 50.0 - 100 mg/L corresponding to geometric mean measured concentrations of 5.13 - 10.5 - 20.7 - 41.1 - 79.7 mg/L. Three replicates were tested for the test item concentrations and six replicates for the control. Environmental conditions were determined to be within the acceptable limits. The concentrations of Jarocol Red BN (4-[(3-hydroxypropyl)amino]-3-nitrophenol) were analysed at all concentration levels at test start and test end by HPLC analysis. The measured concentrations at test start and end were in the range 92 -94% and 69 -74% of the nominal values, respectively. The EC50 values with 95% confidence intervals for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) after 72 hours were 35.3 (33.0 - 37.7) mg/L and 18.2 (13.6 - 21.6) mg/L, respectively. All effect levels are given based on geometric mean measured concentrations of the test substance.
